The route

Motorway into Savoie, then the Belleville valley

Most of the trip is fast. The A43 takes you to Chambéry, the A430 to Albertville and the N90 dual carriageway to Moûtiers. Up to that point there is no mountain road at all.

The climb starts in Moûtiers. The D117 rises about 29 km through the Belleville valley, crosses Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and reaches Les Menuires at around 1,850 m. Val Thorens is 8 km higher up the same road.

Snow on the D117

From 1 November to 31 March, winter tyres or chains are compulsory in the mountain areas of Savoie. Your driver is equipped.

Changeover day

On Saturdays the whole Tarentaise swaps guests. The N90 before Moûtiers is often saturated, so allow an extra hour.

Evening flight

Landing late? The taxi leaves when your plane lands, even after the last coach has gone.

Drop-off

Croisette, Bruyères, Reberty… tell us the district

Les Menuires is spread over several districts at different altitudes. The name of your residence is enough: the driver drops you outside.

La Croisette

The centre of the resort, with the shops, the tourist office and a pharmacy.

Les Bruyères

A lively district higher up, by the slopes, with many holiday residences.

Reberty 1850 and 2000

Two tiered districts popular with families. Say which one: they are not at the same level.

Preyerand, Fontanettes, Hameau des Airelles

The other districts. A free shuttle links them during the season.

The resort

Les Menuires, at the heart of the 3 Valleys

The resort opened for the 1964-1965 winter. It belongs to the commune of Les Belleville, between Saint-Martin-de-Belleville below and Val Thorens above.

Its runs are part of the 3 Valleys, with Val Thorens, Méribel and Courchevel. Many skiers set off straight from their residence.

Staying in Val Thorens instead? See the Lyon Airport → Val Thorens taxi.

Going home

The right time to catch your flight

At the airport, allow about 2 hours before take-off. With the drive and a buffer, our advice is:

  • WeekdaysLeave the resort 5 hours before your flight.
  • Saturdays6h30 before. The run down to Moûtiers and Albertville is at its slowest.
  • SnowAn extra hour of margin.

The driver collects your bags outside the residence. No need to walk to the bus station.

What works best for a family?

Train and coach

You have to get from the airport to a station, change at Moûtiers, then take a coach up. With children and skis, every change counts.

A hire car

It must be equipped for snow. Once there, it often stays parked all week: the free shuttle already links the districts.

A taxi on quote

One trip with no change, child seats included if needed. The price is known before departure and covers the whole family.

LYON OR GENEVA?
