The route leaves the airport through the Bardonnex border crossing and joins the A40, known as the autoroute Blanche, which follows the Arve valley through Bonneville and Cluses. After Le Fayet the road climbs the Egratz viaduct, one of the most spectacular in France, before entering the Chamonix valley at Les Houches. No passes, no tunnels: roughly 80 of the 88 kilometres are motorway.
Allow 1h15 in normal conditions. On changeover Saturdays from January to March the Sallanches to Chamonix section builds up in the late morning and mid-afternoon, so plan for 1h45 to 2 hours. Your flight number is tracked and the driver adjusts the pick-up to the actual landing time.
105 km and 1h15 from Geneva, against roughly 220 km and 2h30 from Lyon. Geneva is not only faster, it is also considerably cheaper on this route — and it takes the vast majority of UK flights into the region.
Winter tyres compliant with the French Loi Montagne II from 1 November to 31 March, chains carried on board. The valley road stays open all season, but the climbs to Argentière and Le Tour can need chains after heavy snow — fitting them is included.
Chamonix draws as many climbers as skiers. Ice axes, ropes, technical packs, touring skis and splitboards are all carried. Tell us the volume when you book: four fully kitted freeriders get a van rather than a saloon.

Most Geneva airport to Chamonix transfers take 1h15 for the 105 km. On a peak Saturday, budget up to 2 hours. The border crossing is usually quick. Delays come from the A40 between Cluses and Sallanches and from the single valley road beyond Le Fayet. Heading for Argentière or Le Tour adds a short climb. That climb can be slower after a night of snow.
Public transport means two trains. The Léman Express runs from Geneva to Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet. There you change to the Mont-Blanc Express up the valley to Chamonix. Scheduled coaches and shared shuttles also run from the airport, with set departure times and several stops. A private transfer is direct. Ice axes, ropes and splitboards go in the boot, and you get out at your own front door.
For a Chamonix to Geneva airport transfer, plan to arrive two hours before your flight. On a weekday, a departure 3h15 before take-off is enough. On a winter Saturday, leave four hours before, as the valley road can be slow. Your driver picks you up at your hotel, apartment or chalet anywhere from Les Houches to Le Tour.

For four travellers on a weekday, the saloon works out at roughly €60 each for a direct journey with drop-off at your accommodation. On busy Saturdays from January to March, allow up to 2 hours.

A Geneva to Vallorcine transfer usually runs up the Chamonix valley through Argentière and over the Col des Montets at 1,461 m. The road is open most of the winter. After heavy snow it can close for avalanche risk, which cuts Vallorcine off from the French side. The only road access is then through Switzerland, a much longer journey. We check the road status before departure and plan the route.
