Taxi Senlis —
the medieval Carolingian city, 30 km from CDG
Taxi service in Senlis (60300), Oise sub-prefecture and historical Carolingian capital — Hugues Capet was elected king here in 987, founding the dynasty that would rule France for eight centuries. The town has kept an intact medieval heart: Notre-Dame cathedral (works started 1153, ten years before Notre-Dame de Paris), Gallo-Roman ramparts (visible over 850 m), cobbled streets, Renaissance mansions. This preservation explains why film crews settle here regularly — Asterix and Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, Cyrano de Bergerac and Les Visiteurs were shot in town. At 30 km from CDG, Senlis is also a discreet arrival point for international visitors who want to skip Paris.

A thousand years of history within 850 m of ramparts
Senlis (population 16,000) is an urban anomaly. Royal capital in the 10th century, bypassed by the 19th-century industrial boom, it has crossed the modern era without transformation. The result is an intact 25-hectare town centre, ringed by Gallo-Roman ramparts from the 3rd century — one of the rare antique walls visible in northern France. Inside: the Notre-Dame cathedral whose western portal sculpted in 1170 influenced Chartres and Paris; the former Saint-Vincent abbey; the royal Saint-Frambourg chapel (founded by Queen Adelaide, now the Cziffra concert hall); and the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre. This historical density and the absence of modern signs explain why filmmakers love Senlis: it's one of France's favourite medieval sets.
