Chantilly (population 11,200) is unlike any other town in France. Its identity rests on three words: horses, château, forest. The Château de Chantilly, rebuilt by the Duke of Aumale in the 19th century, holds the Condé Museum — the second-largest French collection of old master paintings after the Louvre, with works by Raphael, Botticelli and Poussin.
