Taxi service in Méru (60110), a Vexin Oise town that was, from the 19th century to the 1960s, the world centre of mother-of-pearl button production. 5,000 workers processed shells imported from Australia. Plastic concurrency wiped it all out, but the know-how is preserved in the remarkable Mother-of-Pearl Museum — set in a former factory, with polishing demonstrations. Now a 14,000-inhabitant town, SNCF station (Paris-Beauvais line), fast access to BVA airport (25 km).
